A view across the Wolfson Centre for Archival Research

The Wolfson Centre for Archival Research opens its doors to the public for the very first time. Nearly a week on from the opening of the Library of Birmingham, our archive collections are once more accessible for research.

Despite being a grey opening day, the Wolfson Centre offers outstanding views across Birmingham and a pleasant and relaxing working environment for researchers to delve into Birmingham’s past.

Access to our archive collections is by appointment only and please contact us by e-mail via archives.appointments@birmingham.gov.uk if you would like to use the Wolfson Centre.  We encourage advance requests for documents, and offer a timed retrieval service on the day, however please be patient while we find our way round our state-of-the-art storage rooms! We would also recommend bringing a cardigan or jumper as our new searchroom is climate controlled and may be a little chilly for some people!

You can access our archive catalogue online at http://calmview.birmingham.gov.uk and you can also follow us on Twitter @TheIronRoom.

  1. Good to read this explanation. I wonder what the Wolfson Foundation thinks of the new opening hours!
