If you are researching the history of Birmingham, our Heritage Research Area on floor 4 is a great place to start. Regular visitors to Central Library who remember the slightly worn microfilm readers and the temperamental film printers can now look at our vast collection of newspapers and parish registers on our brand new, digital film readers. Attached to a pc, you can print as you go, rather than having to play musical machines or queue for the printer!
Our trade directories and electoral registers are also available on our mobile presses and staff will be happy to provide a demo as there have been a few puzzled looks while trying to figure out how to make them move!
The Birmingham Collection is once again available for research and our card and book catalogues are also accessible on floor 4. Unfortunately we are not yet able to retrieve stack material on demand, however we are taking requests and we will do our best to advise you how to access the material you need – again please be patient as we find our feet!
The Library of Birmingham is now open 8am until 8pm Monday to Friday, Saturday 9am – 5pm and Sundays 11am – 4pm so please do come and visit and see this amazing building for yourself.
